N.C. Department of Labor officials will be on hand at the opening ceremony for the Iredell County Agricultural Fair at 7 p.m. for the opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday to announce the progress and status of the ride inspection process.
Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry and NCDOL staff will speak about the inspection process, status of the rides and other relevant information about steps to ensure the safety of all rides at the fair.
Berry will present the Iredell County Agricultural Fair with a certificate and a flag for its participation as a fair partner in the Safety Amusement Star Program. Iredell County Agricultural Fair will be recognized for its efforts to promote rider safety. Iredell County Agricultural Fair is one of more than 20 fairs to receive this recognition for the 2008 fair season.
Labor officials have been at the fairgrounds inspecting the rides. North Carolina is the only state in the nation that requires rides to be 100 percent to the manufacturer's specifications before the ride is approved.

• Smokey Mountain Amusements will assemble about 29 amusement rides in preparation for the riders who will visit the fair - the Merry Go Round, Bee Bop, Berry Go Round, Hurricane, Jumpcycles, Car Combo, Mardi Gras, Silver Streak, Super Slide, Freedom 2000, Paratrooper, Skywheel, Mini Jet, Spider, Tornado, Racing Cars, Hornet, YoYo, Barrel of Fun, Orient Express, Scooter, Round Up, Sea Ray, Train, Thunderbolt, Cycle Combo, Zipper, Glasshouse and Tempest.
