HICKORY - A Hickory doctor said he will work for food over the next week and a half.
Dr. Joey Miles, a chiropractor specializing in upper cervical care, is offering free office visits to new and existing patients who bring a shopping bag full of non-perishable groceries to appointments scheduled for Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 26.
New patients will get an exam to determine whether upper cervical treatment can help them, which will include X-rays to determine whether upper vertebrae are out of alignment, Miles said. Existing patients get a free appointment and upper cervical checkup.
The food will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank in Hickory, Miles said.
"It helps our patients get involved and do something good for the community and will help people find out if this type of care is something that could help them," he said.
Upper cervical care is a type of chiropractic care that focuses specifically on where the head and neck meet at the upper cervical bones and the brain stem, a vital portion of the nervous system.
It is based on the idea that the top two vertebrae, the Atlas and Axis are especially vulnerable to injury or misalignment, which can irritate the brain stem and affect many of the body's functions.
Miles said more than 100 different health problems respond to the treatment, including such varied conditions as allergies and arthritis to hyperactivity, muscle and joint pain and Tourette Syndrome.
