HICKORY - Lenoir-Rhyne University is getting double duty out of Pulitzer-prize-winning political columnist and best-selling novelist Anna Quindlen tonight.

Quindlen, who writes for Newsweek, will talk about her work and writing as the second author in the school's Visiting Writers Series. She also will join audience members to watch tonight's vice presidential debate on the big-screen. A question and answer session with Quindlen will follow.

The columnist was the third woman in the history of The New York Times to write a regular column for its opinion page when she began the nationally syndicated "Public and Private," for which she won the Pulitzer.

Her five novels include "Blessings," "One True Thing," "Rise and Shine" and "Black and Blue," an Oprah's Book Club selection. She also is the author of seven non-fiction books and two children's books.
