HICKORY - Art in the Shop


When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today


Directions: From Hickory, take N.C. 127 to Bethlehem and turn right onto Devils Track Road. Turn left on Blankenship Road and then make a right onto Bobby Godfrey Lane. Follow the signs from there.


Cost: Free


Why go: Whether you like art that hangs straight or art that's off the wall, you'll find yourself impressed with the variety at this outdoor show.

Haunted Hickory


When: 10 a.m. today to midnight


Where: The SALT Block, 243 Third Ave., NE, Hickory


Cost: $30 to $50


Why go: Hear from a TV ghost hunter and search for a spirit with the experts. You can also go to ghoul school for aspiring spirit seekers.

Western Piedmont Symphony Masterworks concert


When: 8 tonight


Where: J.E. Broyhill Civic Center, 1913 Hickory Blvd., SE, Lenoir


Cost: $15, $30 and $40 for adults and $10 for students or children


Why go: World-renowned violinist Dmitri Berlinsky joins the symphony for the Autumn Colors! concert, the first of this year's season.

Oklahoma!


When: 8 tonight and 3 p.m. Sunday


Where: Newton-Conover Civic and Performance Place, 60 W. Sixth St., Newton


Cost: $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students and $8 for children 12 and under


Why go: You 'Cain't Say No' to this musical favorite. See it tonight and sing it all weekend. It's your last chance. The show closes after Sunday's performance.

October Oyster Outing


When: 3 to 8 p.m. today


Where: Downtown Morganton on the historic courthouse square


Cost: Admission is free. Steamed oysters are $8 a dozen.


Why go: If the taste of oysters, shrimp and barbecue isn't enough, how about the smell of brisk October air and the sound of live music from country and bluegrass bands? Plus, good food meets a good cause. All of the money raised goes to Burke Arts Council.
