HICKORY - The Catawba County Sheriff's Office is still searching for the masked man who shot a woman during a home invasion Friday, said Maj. Coy Reid of the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.
Reid said his deputies have established a known suspect and are searching for him but declined to name the suspect, saying only that he is a black male standing 6-feet 2-inches tall with a slim build and hair braided into cornrows.
The gunman was dressed in black and wore a red bandanna over his face, said a neighbor who saw him race across the grounds armed with a sawed-off shotgun.
He entered a home in the Cool Park Mobile Home Park at 3102 Kool Park Road around 4:45 p.m. and demanded money. His demands led to a scuffle with two of the three men who were in the home. The shotgun discharged through a wall during the altercation, striking a woman in the next room, said Reid.
The woman, who is six-and-a-half months pregnant, was struck with two small pieces of shot in her left hip. Reid said she was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center where she was treated. She has since been released.
The names of the victims have not been released and Reid said they have denied knowing the suspect.
