Why go: Stomp and smell the barbecue. Old-time music and all-day cloggers keep the festival grounds hopping with some help from molasses, apple butter and cider makers, drag cars, a Miss Molasses Pageant and crafters galore.

Where: Patrick Beaver Memorial Library, 375 Third St., NE
Cost: Most hardbacks are $1 to $2. Most paperbacks are 50 cents to $2. Sunday, you can fill a grocery bag for $3.
Why go: As if $1 books aren't enough, the money you pay helps buy library equipment and pay for programs.
When: 7 p.m. Sunday
Where: Hickory Museum of Art, 243 Third Ave., NE
Cost: $8 in advance; $10 at the door; and $6 for students or members
Why go: You already know the museum rocks but headliners Samantha Crain and the Midnight Shivers, along with Linus Van Pelt and The Greater Compliment, prove it.
When: 2:30 today and every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 26 and 7:30 p.m. Fridays through Oct. 24
Where: Hickory Community Theatre, 30 Third St., NW
Cost: $16 for adults; $14 for seniors; $7 for youths and students
Why go: The Disney movie's got nothing on the local theater group's production of this acclaimed young adult novel turned movie turned play. It's a family-friendly adventure about a young boy with no luck and a big secret.
