Fred T. Foard High has joined the list of schools deciding to play varsity football a night earlier than usual.
The Tigers announced early Wednesday they'll play their varsity game at West Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. tonight, following a 5 p.m. junior varsity game at West Lincoln. The JV game was originally scheduled for tonight at Foard.
Freedom will also play a varsity game tonight, going to Crest for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
All other area games scheduled for Friday were still planned for that night as of Wednesday, although the starting time of South Caldwell at West Caldwell moved up 30 minutes (7 p.m. kickoff).
The changes are planning-ahead moves as schools gather information about the possible path of Hurricane Hanna and how the weather may be impacted by it.
The first conference game of the year for area schools is scheduled Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Lenoir with Bandys going to Hibriten in the Catawba Valley Athletic 2A-3A Conference.
Bandys, with junior quarterback Kyle Houser averaging 360 yards per game passing, is 1-1. The Trojans won at Mooresville when Houser threw for a league and school record 452 yards and he passed for 268 yards in last Friday's home loss to East Lincoln.
Hibriten is off to a 2-0 start after winning two games on the road, at Wilkes Central and at South Caldwell. The Panthers are led by running back-defensive back Quin Smith, who plans to sign with South Carolina.
