The Catawba Valley Youth Soccer Association (CVYSA) opened up their season play by participating in several weekend tournaments. The home fields for CVYSA are located at the Pepsi Regional Soccer Complex at the Henry River Recreational Park. Several teams traveled to Aiken, SC for the 13th Aiken Soccer Cup. Over 200 teams from the Southeast met for weekend action.

The 97 CVYSA BLAST RED competed and finished with 1-3 record. Lawson Barkley led the weekend scoring with three goals; Cole Lewis added two goals and Aiman Hussien, Sam Joyner and Garrett Logan each had one goal. Sharing goalie duties for the blast were Jake Lasecki, Jim Gniadek and Lewis.

The 97 CVYSA BLAST BLUE also participated in weekend action and had a successful weekend of play with a 2-1-1 record. In their opening match the Blast fell to the Bulls Red from GA with a score of 8-0. However, in their second match, the Blast won 5-2 over the Congaree Rapid CRSA Sky. Michael Lichtenwalner punched in two unassisted goals. Anthony Fonnisu, Carson Hart and Ben Stewart each added one goal. Lichtenwalner also had an assist. Holden Kue and Austin Harrill shared duties in goal. The Blast met the Florence Fire where the match ended in a 2-2 score. Harrill and Fonnesu each had a goal, with Lichtenwalner and Harrill credited each with an assist. Kue was in goal with an impressive 13 saves. In their final match, the Blast defeated the GA-SC Bulls Black 2-1. Cameron Amos and Harris each scored and tallied an assist. Kue was in goal with five saves.

The 96 CVYSA BLAST BLUE G met the Bulls Black in their opening match. With Julia Kessel in goal, the Blast shut out the Bulls with a final score of 5-0. Caitlyn Mahoney and Olivia Holmes led scorers with two goals each with Maddie Speagle adding a goal. Hannah Hunt, Lily Beaulieu, Sydneigh Lowery, and Holmes were each credited with an assist. The Bulls Red team put one more in the goal the edge by the Blast 2-1 in their second match. Holmes again connected in goal with Beaulieu assisting. Kessel in goal with 11 saves. The Blast would meet the Bulls Red again in the championship match but fell 4-1 in a hard fought game. Holmes would finish the tournament with another score and Beaulieu once again assisting. With six saves in goal, Kessel provided a sound defense.

The 95 CVYSA BLAST BLUE G competed in the Aiken Cup. The Blast tied the Augusta Arsenal 2-2 with Alyssa Burton and Katie Johnson scoring for the Blast. The Blast lost to the South Carolina Lexington United with Burton scoring the Blast's only goal off an assist from Molly Gnaidek. Taylor Logan was in goal for the Blast

Finishing third out of seven teams in their bracket, the 94 CVYSA BLAST BLUE G completed the tournament with a 2-1-1 record. In their opening match, the Blast defeated the Blue Springs Oconee FC Assault from GA with a score of 5-2. Meghan Cole led scoring with two goals with Nicole Siemering, Macy Franklin and Logan Morris each adding one goal. Credited with assists were Cameron Black, Catherine Mundy, Franklin and Cole. Kaitlyn Winn was in goal with 7 saves. The Golden Isles United from Jeckle Island, GA was the opponent in the Blast's second match. Mary Benton was able to score unassisted to end the game in a 1-1 tie. Winn in goal with four saves. The Blast shutout the Caroline FC Gold from Spartanburg in their next match. Kylie Taylor fed the ball to Franklin who scored the lone goal. Winn was in goal for the shutout with three saves. In their final match, the Blast fell short to the Carolina FC Blue 2-1. Winn in goal with four saves.

The 94 CVYSA BLAST BLUE opened up their tournament with a 2-2 tie against the Atlanta Fire on Saturday morning. Chandler Johnson scored both goals for the Blast off breakaways. Ben Underwood served the ball to Johnson on his first goal off a direct kick and Mario Carrillo was credited with the second assist. Hunter Nestor was in goal for the Blast with four saves. In their second match, Johnson scored two goals to tie the Coast FA from Myrtle Beach. Nestor and Trent Wuokko were credited with assists. Nestor was in goal again with three saves. The Blast ended the tournament with an impressive win of 4-1 against the Lexington White. The White would score first; however, Johnson would continue his scoring drive with a goal off a long pass from Chris Dixon. In the second half, the Blast went ahead off a corner kick from Johnson which Kenan Ruffner would put the ball into the back of the net. Jed Blanchet scored off an intercepted goal kick and Dixon would score off a pass from Wuokko. Nestor and Frankie Wyatt shared duties in goal.

The CVYSA 93 Blast Blue girls met the Augusta Arsenal Gunners Gold in their first match. The Blast held off the Arsenal attack in the first half, but gave up four goals in the second half for the loss. Kayla Miller was in goal with several saves for the Blast. Sarah Beam scored the lone goal for the Blast in their battle against Carolina FC of Spartanburg, SC. The Blast lost 3 1. Miller again had numerous saves in goal. The Blast played a hard fought match against the Macon United for their last bout, but could not get the ball in the net. Final score was 2-0.

Several other CVYSA teams traveled to the Furniture City Classic in High Point. The 96 CVYSA Blast White met the PSA Stars from High Point in their opening match on Saturday. The Blast was up 3-2 at half off scores from Chandler Bouldin and Javier Chavez. Travis Poole added two more goals and Eric Williams punched one in to give the Blast a 5-3 win. Noah Taylor tallied two assists and Bouldin and Chavez each had one assist. Dylan Biggerstaff in goal with five saves. In their second match, the Blast fell 5-2 to the CRSC Olympic White from Raleigh. Poole had two goals with Israel Ramirez credited with an assist. Biggerstaff in goal with six saves. In Sunday action, the Blast with Poole's two goals, edged by the CRSC Olympic Blue from Raleigh 2-1. Taylor and Bouldin each had one assist. Biggerstaff had nine saves in goal. The Blast met the CRSC White again for the championship game. CRSC punched in the winning goal with less than a minute left to give the Raleigh team the win 2-1. Ramirez fed the ball to Poole who scored the lone goal for the Blast. Biggerstaff was in goal with five saves and Jake Mahnke had one save in goal.
