HICKORY - Friday's Books and Brushes at Lenoir-Rhyne University features potters, painters, woodworkers, folk artists and other varied talents. Artists donate 25 percent of the money they make from sales to the Rudisill Library at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

A Brooks and Brushes benefit evening will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Rudisill Library on campus. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Participants can stroll through the stacks, enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres and appreciate the artwork. The artists will be on hand, and guests are encouraged to discuss the art with the creators.

The artwork will remain on exhibit and for sale throughout the fall semester. Tickets to the benefit evening are $50. Contact Nancy Lemaire at lemairen@lrc.edu or 328-7345 for tickets. Advance reservations are requested.

Local artists and several L-R students will participate. They include:

• Michael Bock, an artist specializing in realistic oil paintings.

• Wanda Clark, a folk artist whose work often reflects her African-American heritage.

• Helen "Taffy" Sides DeCuzzi and Ray Searcy, partners in SnS Woodworking who create turned wooden bowls that are both functional and beautiful.
