Newton-Conover High's quest to reach the state 2A dual-team wrestling championship for the third straight year resumes tonight at 6 p.m. at Newton-Conover.

The Red Devils (34-5) face unbeaten North Surry (32-0) and West Lincoln (31-6) battles Ledford (24-6), which beat Central Davidson on Wednesday to advance, in the other quarterfinal.

Tonight's quarterfinal winners then meet in the semifinals for a berth in Saturday's state 2A title match.

West Stokes (25-17), Hillsborough Orange (24-3), South Brunswick (23-9) and Croatan (18-3) are still alive in the East 2A bracket.

Newton-Conover has made the last two 2A finals, losing to McMichael in 2007 and Hillsborough Orange last season.

The 2A bracket, for the most part, escaped being impacted by inclement weather on Tuesday.

But the 3A bracket, where St. Stephens (36-1) is prepared to wrestle Mooresville (30-1) in the quarterfinals, has been delayed.

The Indians expect to wrestle the next two rounds on Friday at a site to be determined, after the first two rounds involving Piedmont, Southwestern Randolph, Trinity and High Point Andrews are completed tonight. They were delayed again Wednesday.

Winston-Salem Parkland (34-0) and Anson County (14-5) are also still alive in the West 3A bracket.
Their match was delayed on Wednesday and scheduled for tonight.

In 4A, the matches at Mallard Creek High – Northwest Guilford against Mallard Creek and Alexander Central against East Gaston – were postponed again on Wednesday and reset for tonight.

Also reset for tonight are Concord Robinson against West Forsyth and Myers Park against East Forsyth.

Butler (19-3) and Davie County (34-0) have advanced in the West 4A bracket. Davie County beat Freedom 58-21 on Wednesday night to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.
