The North Carolina State Elks Association recently held the 37th state hoop shoot competition at Jameson Gymnasium in Greensboro.
Twenty-four youths from across North Carolina participated in three girls divisions and three boys divisions. The winners will advance to Fredrick, MD., on March 21 for the Regional finals.
The six winners there will advance to Springfield, Ma., for the Elks National Finals Hoop Shoot Competition held in conjunction with the Basketball Hall of Fame on April 25, 2009. Winners will have their names placed on a special wall at the Hall of Fame.
The following youths are not NC State Elks Hoop Shoot Champions for their division.
Winner in the 8-9 year old girls division was Maly Shores from Hickory.
Winner in the 8-9 year old boys division was Ryan Grice from Stanley
Winner in the 10-11 year old girls division was Leah Church from Purlear
Winner in the 10-11 year old boys division was Jordon Perkins from Greensboro
Winner in the 12-13 year old girls division was Sarah-Gray Lesley, daughter of Todd and Lu-Ann Lesley, from Raleigh, NC. Sarah-Gray made 22 of 25 free throws to become state champion.
Winner in the 12-13 year old boys division was Zebulon Alford III, son of Vance and Jennifer Alford, from Raleigh, NC. Zebulon shot 24 of 25 free throws to become state champion
