KANNAPOLIS - Class is back in session February as the UNC Nutrition Research Institute starts the second installment of the Appetite For Life lecture series.
This year, professors from the UNC School of Nutrition will target their lectures to specific audiences. The first lecture is all about infant and child nutrition, for example.
"We wanted to keep the topics pretty broad, but we are targeting groups of people this year for each lecture," said spokeswoman Lisa Canada.
Among the topics: How the metabolism works, how nutrition affects immunity and a sociological view the world-wide obesity epidemic.
Barry Popkin will give that lecture, Canada said. Popkin is widely-known expert in the field of obesity and physical activity. His lecture will be at the center of science and policy, Canada said.
The lectures will be held in the Core Research Laboratory every Tuesday in February, from 7-9 p.m. and are free. Registration is required and the classes are open to the first 250 who sign up.
To register or for more information, contact Lisa Canada at 704-250-5012 or visit www.uncnri.org.
