July 4 closings

HICKORY - Public schools

• The central offices and all schools for Hickory Public and Newton-Conover City schools will be closed to the public Friday, and will re-open Monday. Catawba County Schools' central office and all schools will be closed Friday and Monday.

Lenoir-Rhyne University

• There will be no classes Friday, and most campus offices will be closed.

Catawba Valley Community College

• East Campus will be closed at 5 p.m. today and Friday. The Main Campus will be closed Friday.

Catawba County

• All county offices will be closed Friday. The county library system will be closed Friday and Saturday. All parks will be open.

Hickory

• City offices will be closed Friday. Patrick Beaver Memorial Library and Ridgeview Branch Library will be closed Friday and Saturday. They are always closed on Sundays June through August.

• Hickory Parks and Recreation administration office and recreation centers, including the skateboard park at Stanford Park, will be closed Friday.

• Residential recycling and garbage will be collected as usual. Hickory parks and recreation centers will be open as usual.

Newton, Maiden, Claremont

• City offices will be closed Friday. Trash and recycling pick-ups will continue as usual. If residents of Newton have an emergency, they can call the police department at 465-7430.

Conover

• City offices will be closed Monday. Sanitation will be on regular schedule.

Hickory Farmers' Market

• The Downtown Hickory Farmers' Market will be open regular operating hours from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Other

• Resurrection International Church will host FREEdom Fest, a July 4 event, beginning at 6:30 p.m. A minimum donation of $2 is requested.

There will be free bouncers for kids, free balloons, face painting and toys given to all children; free popcorn, bottled water and soda; and bathrooms. There will also be free music and entertainment.

You can watch the fireworks display at L.P. Frans Stadium, home of the Crawdads, after the game, from the church parking lot.

Vendors will sell various items, including ice cream. Any business wanting to distribute free promotional materials or have a paid booth may contact Vanessa James at 324-5372.
