Coaches pick Appalachian to win SoCon football title

Football coaches in the Southern Conference unanimously selected Appalachian State as the preseason favorite to win the league crown this season.
ASU has won four consecutive SoCon crowns, including a shared title with Wofford in 2007.
The Mountaineers received eight first-place votes in the balloting, the maximum allowed as coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Georgia Southern received the remaining vote for No. 1.
The Mountaineers will return 18 starters, including seven on offense and nine on defense.
