Newton - Stephen Schwartz will hold a master class at the Clater-Kaye Studios from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6. Registration is limited to 40 people with prices of $75 and $125. Reservations are required. To reserve a spot, call Clater-Kaye Studios at 294-2582.

Schwartz is the composer and lyricist from popular shows such as "Wicked," "Godspell," "Pippin" and with movies including "Pocahontas," "Enchanted" and "The Prince of Egypt."

Schwartz also will be appearing at the Barnes & Noble in Hickory from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 7 to sign copies of his book, "Defying Gravity." This event will be a book fair to benefit Clater-Kaye Productions and the Newton-Conover Auditorium. Apercentage of the proceeds will benefit both non-profits.

Schwartz also will attend the 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 performance of "The Stephen Schwartz Project," at the Newton-Conover Auditorium.

There will be an After Performance Gala at the Artist Café from 10 p.m. to midnight. The price for the reception is $30 per person or $50 per couple. Reservations are recommended. To get tickets, call Reggie Helton at 464-8100.
