CHARLOTTE - Investigators have arrested the person believed to have shot a man in the back in Sherrills Ford last week.
Dominic Carr, also known as "Maui," was arrested at his girlfriend's home in Charlotte on Tuesday.
Deputies with the U.S. Marshal's Office and Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office arrested Carr, said Chief Deputy Coy Reid with the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.
Reid said Carr was at a house that Derrick Mullis, 20, shared with Carr's brother, Phillip Beam-Berryman, in Sherrills Ford on May 29 when Mullis and Beam-Berryman got into an argument. As Mullis walked away, authorities believe Carr got a rifle out of the closet and shot Mullis in the back, and then left the house, Reid said.
Carr, 21, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. His bond was set at $35,000. His brother, Beam-Berryman, was arrested the day of the shooting, May 29, and charged with misdemeanor resisting a public officer, Reid said, for giving false information to investigators to protect his brother. He also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. He was given a $1,800 bond.
Reid said Mullis is still in Carolinas Medical Center, where he was taken after he was shot.
