HICKORY - Ashley Cierra Chislom, 22, of Sherrills Ford, was shot in the leg by a stray bullet as she walked through the parking lot of the Hickory Wal-Mart at about 2:30 a.m. Friday.
The bullet entered her right leg above the knee and traveled into her left leg, according to police reports.
Two women who heard the shooting pulled over to give her a ride out of the area, officers said.
She was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Responding Hickory officers located a blue Geo Prisim on U.S. 70 that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. The car's passenger matched the description of the suspect. Police found a revolver in the car and arrested Roderick Jermaine Young, 25, of Shelby.
He was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, three felony counts of discharging a firearm into occupied vehicle, two counts of damage to real property willfully, one felony count of possession of a weapon by a felon, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of discharging a firearm in the city limits.
His bond was set at $200,000 secured.
