Man robbed trying to buy back his TV

Ex-girlfriend is one of two arrested so far.

HICKORY - A man hoping to get his TV back ended up getting robbed.

Roberto Layza recently broke up with his girlfriend, Keisha Matthews, and was hoping to get his TV back from her, according to police reports.

Layza got off work at about midnight Friday and asked Matthews to meet him in the parking lot of the Waffle House at 13th Avenue Drive, SE, with the TV, so he could buy it back from her. According to the report, Layza recently sold his car, and had the cash from the sale with him.

Layza, 31, was outside Zaxby's, where he worked, when he saw Matthews' Ford SUV pull up. As he was walking to Matthews' car, Layza said two Hispanic males "came out of nowhere," according to the report, and attacked him.

Witnesses said the men came from Matthews' car, according to the police report.

Layza said he recognized one of the men as Matthews' new boyfriend.

Layza was robbed of the money he had from the sale of his car.

Hickory police arrested Matthews, 23, on Saturday and charged her with felony common law robbery. She was placed in jail under a $10,000 secured bond.

Jonathan Santiago, 20, was also charged with felony common law robbery and placed in jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
