HICKORY - A man was shot to death inside his own apartment Sunday night, according to police reports.
A male called 911 at 9:30 p.m. and said there was a shooting at the Hickory Trace Village West apartments on Fifth Street, NE, police said.
When officers got to the apartment complex, there were two Hispanic males outside the complex. One of them told police their friend had been shot inside apartment No. 239, according to police reports.
When police went inside the apartment, they found Salvador Ramirez Figueroa, 28, lying on his side in the living room with a gunshot wound to his chest. Although EMS responded to the scene to treat Figueroa, he died of his wound at his apartment, police said.
Officers questioned the two men outside of the apartment, and arrested one of them, Jorge Garcia. He is charged with murder.
Hickory Police Capt. Clyde Deal said the men were acquaintances and gathered at Figueroa's apartment to hang out Sunday night.
Police are still determining a motive for the shooting.
A gun was recovered outside the Hickory Trace Village West apartment complex, Deal said, although he declined to comment on where it was found.
Figueroa was the only person inside the apartment when police went inside. Although the apartment was rented in his name, someone else had been staying with him, Deal said.
Garcia, 30, of Conover, was placed under arrest and not given bond. He had his first court appearance Monday. His next court date is Dec. 3.
