Hickory - As a city official, it's made me especially sensitive to our public servants — our police, firefighters and our members of the community in the armed services who put themselves in harm's way not only to protect our freedom but also our families and our communities.
Conover Mayor-elect Lee Moritz Jr., 52, of Conover
In times like this, we all very likely assess the top priorities in our lives. And in that search, it ultimately comes back to the basics — appreciation and thanks for your family (definitely must single out my wonderful wife) and close friends; to live, work and play in complete freedom; and the beauty God daily provides in the skies, waters, mountains and forests that surround us.
Catawba County Economic Development Corporation Existing Industry Coordinator Nathan Huret
I am thankful for Thanksgiving Day. It is what it is, simple and unpretentious. A day to be thankful for the roof over your head, the food on your table, family and friends. A day for football, a walk in the park, a nap, a game of Monopoly. Enjoy. The madness starts Friday!
Small Business Center Director Bonnie Sweeting
I am thankful for the pioneers in business for establishing a culture in our country that embraces and appreciates the value of business, industry, job creation, the free market, wealth creation through hard work, entrepreneurship and accepting risk. For these I am supremely thankful, because they are the same principals that will help our local community get back to economic prosperity again.
Catawba County Chamber of Commerce President Danny Hearn
I'm thankful to God first. And I'm thankful I am employed again. I was out of work about four and a half months. That was long enough.
St. Paul AME Zion Church Associate pastor Anetia Wright, 51, of Hickory
I am thankful for the many leaders and citizens in the Greater Hickory Metro who have positive attitudes about the future in spite of the recent economic downturn; the freedoms our country provides us to speak out on issues about those things with which we disagree and to worship as we please; the ability to work, live and play in a community rich in cultural heritage, history, arts and entertainment.
Bebe Leitch, Hickory Metro Convention and Visitors Center
I'm thankful for my health. About 10 years ago they said I was looking at Lou Gehrig's Disease. My actual diagnosis turned out to be mercury and lead toxicity and a hidden infection. I have learned so much from it.
Jennifer Quintanilla, 35, of Hickory
I'm thankful for my friendships and for my family. On Thanksgiving, we're not exchanging gifts. We're exchanging love.
Claremont Police Chief Gerald Tolbert, 64, of Claremont
My family, my wonderful wife, my little boy, Jacob, and my little girl who is on the way. She is due Dec. 7. I'm also thankful for the wonderful teenagers at First Baptist Church whom I've had the privilege of working with.
First Baptist Church of Hickory Minister to Students Chris Gillespie, 32, of Hickory
Everything. There's so much. Family, work, the people you associate with. If one doesn't work, the other one does. So you're never truly sinking. There's always something to pull you up.

Thankful for my salvation, my family, good health, my job and the opportunity to work with good employees.

I'm thankful to be here. The Lord saved my life Aug. 14. A car hit me and knocked me off my mo-ped. I'm just glad to still be here and walking around.

Family. I'm just thankful that I have my family and that I have my job — and thankful I have a turkey to put on the table.

I have a family, a house, a bed, food.

I'm thankful for life, for health. I thank God I still have a job. I'm thankful for my son, my co-workers and also for all the good things God provides.
Rosendo Arguero, 46, of Hickory
I am thankful for the kind of staff that is so dedicated that we have in our county. I am thankful for the citizens we have here in Catawba County and their resilience. I know there are a lot of people who are hurting this holiday season and I'm thankful for the kind of charitable giving that many of our citizens do, especially this season. And I think we'll see that this year when those of us who can will give … and hopefully make it a brighter season for many people. I've witnessed it in Catawba County for 30 years and I've always seen people come to the call.
Catawba County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Kitty Barnes, 62, of Terrell

I'm thankful when I come home I have lots of family to celebrate Thanksgiving with. A lot of people have to have a makeshift Thanksgiving. I have Thanksgiving kind of pre-made.
