NEWTON - Coleman Pressley saved his best for last.
"With the year we had, this makes it all better and gives us some momentum for next year," said Pressley.
Pressley earned his first win of the season at Hickory Motor Speedway winning the Fall Brawl on Sunday.
Pressley finished 15th in the final regular-season points standings, 696 back of track champion Andy Mercer.
"We have always run good in the Fall Brawl but have never been able to seal the deal, but today we were able to finish," said Pressley.
Pressley, who qualified second, battled pole sitter Mercer for most of the day and took the lead from Mercer on lap 207, and led the final 43 laps of the 250-lap event for his 35th career Late Model win.
Mercer finished second followed by Steven Wallace in third, Candace Muzny in fourth and Dexter Canipe Jr. rounded out the top five.
Pressley's father and crew chief (Robert) made some changes on the car at the midway point, and that was the difference.
"My dad made some adjustments at the break and I second guessed him afraid that he was going to make it too tight," said Pressley. "It worked out and that goes to show why he is the crew chief and I drive. We went down on the track bar and it was like a Sunday drive in the second half."
When the race was resumed after a short break at the midway point, it was the Mercer and Pressley show as Mercer led from lap 125 to 207 before giving up the lead to Coleman.
"The car was real good, but we were fighting some break issues and it tightened up down the stretch," said Mercer. "Overall it was a good run and I congratulate Coleman Pressley. He got the better of us today."
The biggest gains of the day belonged to Wallace and Muzny.
Wallace started 25th and Muzny rolled off 18th.
Wallace moved into the third spot with 23 laps remaining and held on to that position.
"I would have like to have won, but we were tight and the car didn't handle real good so to get a third-place finish was a good day," said Wallace.
It was a day of survival as 19 of the 26 cars in the starting field finished the race.
Patrick Milesworth, who started third finished 26th and Matt McCall who started fourth finished 10th.
In addition to the Late Model event, the Limited Late Model and Super Trucks were in action.
Chris Chapman, who started fourth earned the win followed by Tyler Church, Mark McIntosh, John Hilliker and Justin Sorrow rounded out the top five.
Pole sitter Kyle Mansch finished 14th out of 15 cars.
In the Super Trucks, Jody Measamer earned the win followed by Clint Fields, Jody Church, Michael Cooper and Justin Crider rounded out the top five.
Pole sitter Trevor Hignutt finished 10th out of 10 trucks.
