Recently, a memorial service was held at Maiden High School for all firemen from Catawba County who have died with in the past year.

I, along with my family, wish to express our deepest appreciation for a most appropriate and supportive service directed by the Catawba County Fire Association.

As the brother of Rick "Farky" Parker, Maiden Fire Department 10, I say to all how blessed we are for the firemen who place their lives before others each day they as answer the call.

How many can't find a job because of age?

In Washington, they are saying there are 9 million people out of work. I am sure their not counting the people who can't draw unemployment anymore, or at all.

I am over the age of 45, and I've been without out a job for 15 months.

I have put in countless applications. I have a GED. But when they ask are you over the age of 40, you might as well hang it up. You're not getting the job.

North Carolina is the only state that doesn't have rights for workers. Companies can use any reason not to hire you or fire you. This needs to change.

I might be older, but I have a lot to offer like so many more people who are over 40.

I would like to know how many people are over the age of 40 and can't find a job and can no longer draw or never could draw because they were contracted labor.

'Fat tax' idea is not fair to Americans

I am outraged that the Obama administration is trying to say that the American people are to fat, and fat people will have to pay higher insurance premiums than skinny people because the overweight people are causing health-care prices to rise.

It is not fair to single people out because they are overweight.

It doesn't matter if the illegals are fat, they get free health care because they say they can't find them
If they can trace you on a cell phone halfway around the world, they can find illegals. First, start in each county, in the school systems, and find the kids who are new to the area, look at where they live, how many people live there and look and see if they are using the same Social Security numbers.

It would take time, but it would provide jobs and help out Americans from paying taxes for non-citizens.

Government doesn't care about its people. They are taking our rights away, saying if you're too fat you'll pay higher taxes and higher health care.

Maybe we need to send our government pink slips. Maybe that would get some attention.

What do you think?
