FOR SINGLES:
1. Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's do the time warp again! Hickory Community Theatre screens the cult classic. Come dressed as your favorite character. Even if you don't know the drill, the theater provides you with a bag of props and a cheat sheet for when to use them.

Cost: $10
Time/Day: 9 p.m. and midnight Saturday

2. Blood of the Vine wine and beer tasting: Sample the witch's brew. Gail's Hops & Grapes has a special autumn selection. There's also a costume contest and door prizes.
Location: 2420 N. Center St., Hickory
Cost: $15
Time/Day: 5:30 to 8 tonight

3. Haunted show and costume contest: It'll be a drag, but a fun one. The Cabaret has its haunted show and costume contest Friday. Saturday is the Balloween Drop with cash prizes and a special show.
Location: The Cabaret, 101 N. Center St., Hickory
Cost: $5 for members; $10 for guests and $15 for ages 18 to 20 on Friday and $10 for members, $15 for guests and $20 for underage patrons on Saturday.
Time/Day: Doors open at 9 p.m. Friday for the Halloween show and Saturday for the Balloween Drop party. Saturday's show is at 11:45 p.m.

FOR FAMILIES
1. Meet "The Shack" author:/b> William Paul Young will be in town speaking and reading from his work.
Location: Lenoir-Rhyne University
Cost: $20 and $30
Time/Day: 2 p.m. Sunday

2. Rent "Aliens in the Attic:" Weren't you disappointed when your kids thought "E.T." was lame? Rent the new-to-DVD film "Aliens in the Attic." The kids will love it and you'll feel smug about how superior the movies were in your childhood.
