The 24th annual Sculpture Celebration at J.E. Broyhill Park, 509 Ridge St. in Lenoir, is Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11 and 12.
Realism, abstract forms and shapes, traditional, contemporary, movable, stationary, indoor and outdoor sculpture will transform the park into a showplace for three-dimensional art.
Sculptors compete for merit and purchase awards, which include $2,500 for Best-in-Show, $2,000 for first place, $1,500 for second place, $1,000 for third place and several $500 honorable mention awards. These awards will be announced at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
Several sculptors have submitted digital images of their work for consideration of a Public Art Award of $2,000 and the opportunity to have a sculpture prominently exhibited on N.C. 321.
Registration is available to any 3-D artist up to the day of the event for $60. Each sculptor may present three pieces.
This year's Judge, John Henry, is known worldwide for his large-scale public works of art, which grace numerous museum, corporate, public and private collections
On Friday Sept. 11, Caldwell Arts Council will host The Blue Jeans Preview Party, where sculptors, patrons, artists and Henry will gather for dinner and live music by Four People, followed by a presentation of the judge's sculptural work.
Tickets are $15 in advance, with dinner at 7 p.m. Call Caldwell Arts Council at 754-2486 for reservations.
