FOR SINGLES
1. Connor Christian and Southern Gothic perform: Equal parts modern troubadour, back road poet and outlaw rocker, Connor Christian creates gritty, soulful songs of experience. He sings of solace in hardship and hope in destitution with a dustbowl sensibility. His powerful music draws on influences ranging from Ryan Adams, G. Love and Counting Crows to The Band and Tumbleweed Connection-era Elton John. It's a heartfelt statement at the crossroads of roots rock and Americana.
Location: Drip's Coffee & Brewhouse, 256 First Ave., NW, Hickory
Cost: $5 in advance at www.fiveheadentertainment.com or $7 at the door
Time/Day: 9 p.m. Friday

Madeline, the fictional French girl from your favorite childhood volumes, steps out of the pages and into a local book store. She comes all the way from Paris to share her ever-so-audacious stories.
