New inn opens south of Hickory

HICKORY - Kendal Speagle says there is always reason to celebrate, and that The Pecan Tree Inn of Hickory may be the perfect place to do it.
Speagle is event coordinator at the area's newest bed and breakfast, which opened in November on a 10-acre property just off N.C. 10, south of Hickory.
The 8,000-square-foot inn features four themed rooms, each with a private bath.
In-room amenities include wireless Internet, microwave, refrigerator, flat-panel television with high-definition cable service, and DVD/CD player.
Rates range from $149 per night for the top-of-the-line French Country Suite to $99 for the Wild West Suite.
Amenities include chef and delivery services; stables and pasture for guests' horses; a pool with cookout capabilities; spa and exercise facilities; conference facilities; a pond; and bird-watching sanctuary.
The inn features a whole-house music system as well as an intercom.
In addition to accommodating travelers, the inn is used for a variety of celebrations, including birthday and retirement parties and weddings.
Speagle said that unlike some inns, this one happily caters to older, well-behaved children.
Owners Cindy and Dave Ziegler bought the property in 2006 when they moved here from Sherrills Ford.
Speagle, who has a degree in communications from Gardner-Webb University, joined the staff in March.
"We're getting everyone from furniture shoppers from Canada and a film producer from Los Angeles to local brides and people who just need a nice place to get away for a couple of days," Speagle said.
"This is a great place to celebrate, or just relax."
