Hickory - Let's discuss some musically related items contained in your library. A few reference and circulating items will be briefly covered that are representative of many musical genres such as blues, classical, ragtime, jazz, rock, folk, pop and vocal.
Our reference collection contains quite a few useful musical resources with most of these being dictionaries and encyclopedias. "Oxford Dictionary Of Music" and "Larousse Encyclopedia Of Music" give a broad overview of musical topics. "Contemporary Composers," "Jazz Talk," "The Guinness Encyclopedia Of Popular Music," "The Encyclopedia Of Country Music" and "The Harmony Illustrated Encyclopedia Of Rock" give a basic overview of their respective genres. Biographies and biographical reference works such as the "Encyclopedia Of Rock Stars" are also available.
"Musical Instruments Of The World" and "The Illustrated Encyclopedia Of Musical Instruments" give a broad overview of the existent types of musical instruments. Music videos on playing instruments, reading music notation, recordings of musicians playing, etc are also available.
As a guide to classical music subgenre recordings, "The Gramophone Classical Good CD Guide" is a good starting point, with reviews of recordings made by the world's great musicians.
All classical orchestral, instrumental, vocal, solo and group styles of playing are represented in this guide.
"Classical Music: The Listener's Companion" gives an overview of the classical genre. "Who's Afraid Of Classical Music" and "Classical Music: An Introduction To Classical Music Through The Great Composers And Their Masterworks" are additional resources for learning about the many subdivisions of classical music.
There are a variety of music history and musical- genre books. "Norton Anthology Of Western Music" covers music from ancient to modern times and gives a quick perspective of how music has evolved over the millenia.
Books on specific musical genres are available as well.

"Fundamentals Of Music" covers music theory and notation for those interested in learning technical facets of music. A few musical notation books and instructional materials for various instruments are available, but few materials of this type are owned. However, you may be able to find a musical composition in notated form online while using one of our computers.
