Hickory - The Hickory Community Theatre has a cast in place for its upcoming production of the musical "Gypsy, a musical fable," which opens on March 5 in the Jeffers Theatre.
Viki Ryan will play Rose, the domineering stage mother. Anissa Briggs and Madison Setzer play the young versions of her daughters, June and Louise.
Carol Anne Hartman and Shannon Underwood play the teenage and grown-up versions of the girls. Eric Stafford plays Rose's suitor, Herbie.
Jared Parsons, Robert Reynolds and Robert Sherrill play the young male dancers in June's act. Their feminine counterparts are Gretchen Adkins, Meshall Al-Faisal and Faith Miller.
Molly Bass, Donna Powell and Edyth Pruitt play a trio of wise-cracking burlesque dancers. Blake Comby, Cassidy Pruitt and Mike Pruitt round out the ensemble.
The show takes place during the Great Depression and during the waning days of vaudeville. Rose's only ambition in life is to see her daughter become a star, and she'll do anything to make it happen.
"Gypsy, a musical fable" plays for 10 performances. Tickets are now available at www.hct.org or by phone at 328-2283.
