Catawba County potters to exhibit work at L-R

John and Scottie Post, owners of Hog Hill Pottery in Vale, will exhibit their pottery at Lenoir-Rhyne University from Jan. 22 to Feb. 14. The exhibit will be housed in the Visual Arts Center, located at 643 ½ Eighth Ave. N.E. near the softball field.

An opening reception is from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22. The exhibit will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Scottie Post earned a master of fine arts degree at the University of Georgia, including study at the School of Art in Cortona, Italy. John Post earned a bachelor's degree in art education at Winona State University of Minnesota, and a master's in arts administration at St. Mary's University of Minnesota. He has studied at the Penland School of Art and served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic.

The couple started their Catawba County pottery studio in 1993, transforming a former country store and gas station into Hog Hill Pottery. They built a large kiln from bricks salvaged from the defunct Vangard Pottery, formerly Hyalyn Pottery of Hickory. In 2000, they moved to their present location in the traditional pottery district off N.C. 10 and Smith Road.

Locally, they show their work at the Catawba Valley Pottery Festival each March in Hickory.
