Forecast of rain alters prep schedules

With rain in the forecast for Friday, four Catawba Valley Athletic 2A-3A Conference high school varsity events -- three baseball games and one soccer match -- have been moved to Thursday.

South Meck ends East Burke's season

South Mecklenburg's Spencer Shuey led the Sabres to an 18-15 win over East Burke in the first round of the state high school 4A football playoffs. Shuey recorded only 36 yards rushing. But the senior fullback scored two touchdowns, including the game winner late in the fourth quarter.
