Southwestern Randolph High ended the dual-team playoff run for Fred T. Foard with a 33-32 win in the third round of the state 3A playoffs at Jay M. Robinson High in Concord Thursday night.
Piedmont High edged Newton-Conover on the seventh criteria after the match was tied 28-28 in the West 2A Region championship on Thursday at Wheatmore High.
St. Stephens High junior Sava Turcanu won two individual state 3A swimming championships on Thursday at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.
Hickory High has forfeited nine varsity football games – all eight of its wins and a tie from last season -- for inadvertently using an ineligible player.
The next rounds in the pursuit of state high school dual-team wrestling championships will take Fred T. Foard and Newton-Conover on the road.
