Hickory High’s girls remained unbeaten in the Northwestern 3A-4A on Tuesday night, beating visiting South Caldwell 52-45.

Brooke Robinson scored a game-high 20 points, 16 over the final three quarters, lifting Fred T. Foard High to a 65-53 win over South Caldwell in Northwestern 3A-4A girls’ basketball on Friday night at South Caldwell.
It was a good night for the defending champions.

Berry Academy grabbed the boys’ basketball championship trophy at the Burke County Invitational on Thursday night, knocking off previously unbeaten Freedom 78-72 in Morganton.
The Hickory High boys have won 15 titles in the Catawba Valley Classic’s 24-year history.
Defending champion Newton-Conover High earned a trip to the Catawba Valley Classic title game again on Wednesday night, beating Alexander Central 44-33 in the semifinals.
Kadesha Gibbs and Laneica Williams combined for 36 points on Tuesday night, leading Newton-Conover High’s girls past Fred T. Foard 66-34 in the first round of the Catawba Valley Classic.
Alexander Central High’s boys held Maiden scoreless for nearly seven minutes in the second half on Tuesday en route to a 58-44 basketball victory in first round of the Catawba Valley Classic.
