Commissioners get Report on IBT Rules, Solid Waste Tax

»  Comments | Post a Comment

During its regular meeting Monday morning, the Catawba County Board of Commissioners were updated on issues addressed by the state General Assembly during its Short Session.
Two of the issues - the $2 per ton Solid Waste Disposal Tax and interbasin transfer (IBT) rules - saw some alteration from state government.
* Catawba County Commissioners supporting the repealing of the Solid Waste Disposal Tax, which resulted in increases in service fees in the county. The tax was not repealed, but was changed, allowing counties to remit the tax on a quarterly basis rather than prepaying. Counties also are allowed to receive credit for bad debts if an operator doesn't pay the account balance.
* IBT rules, important during the time of drought in this area, now require notification of involved parties outside of North Carolina of proposed IBTs.
