Charlie's Chaplains is a not-for-profit group of volunteers that bring a special treatment — "humor therapy" — to patients at Frye Regional Medical Center. The group began in 1991 under the guidance of Chaplain Robert Ford and pastors Dana McKim and Danny Leonard.
The group will be holding its annual Creative Ministry Skool on Sept. 27, featuring keynote speaker Roger Carr, founder of Everyday Giving.
Skool '08 will revolve around the theme of a "3-Ring Circus," offering classes on various aspects of clown ministry — "Beginner/Intermediate Clown Makeup Lab," "How to Create an Original Costume Design" and "Just Clownin' Around Skits 'n Schticks, to name a few — and for all levels of students.
The daylong event is open to the public and others in the industry in an effort to encourage the creation of more such ministries.
