In a document filed in the Catawba County courthouse Monday, J.V. Huffman Jr. listed the value of his real estate as $2.45 million.

Huffman had to list his assets when he applied for a court-appointed attorney. He was denied.

On the application a defendant must fill out when applying for a court-appointed attorney, they must list their assets, liabilities, monthly expenses and other information. Huffman's vehicles, which have already been paid for, include a 2008 Chevy truck, 2008 Mercedes SUV, two 2007 Mercedes, 2007 Chevy truck, 2007 Pontiac and a 2003 Ford SUV, totaling $400,000.

Huffman is charged with four counts of felony securities fraud. He was arrested Nov. 7 and is in jail under a $1 million secured bond.

According to the document, he owes $180,000 on the property, said Al Jean Bogle, clerk of Superior Court. His personal property, which could be anything from furniture to boats to stereos, Bogle said, Huffman listed as $50,000.

He also wrote on the application that he does not owe anything on installment accounts, such as credit cards, and that they last time he paid income taxes was in 2005.

Huffman said he doesn't have any cash in his bank accounts and no one owes him money, Bogle said.
Huffman is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 1.
