The Caldwell County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a house fire that broke out around 2 p.m. Sunday at 160 N. Main St. Parallel.

The blaze started in the kitchen of the two-story home, said Earl Wilson, assistant fire chief in Granite Falls. The fire department called in the Red Cross to help find shelter for the family — a father, mother and three children, Wilson said.

No one was injured in the fire, which took firefighters a matter of minutes to extinguish.

Wilson said the kitchen of the house was destroyed and the remainder of the home had moderate smoke damage. He estimated the damage at about $30,000.
