RECORD UPDATE: Assistant district attorney to seek death penalty against Taylorsville couple

Issue: Jerry Damron and his wife, Lisa, are accused of murdering Kelly Culley and transporting her remains across the Virginia state line to dispose of her body.

Background: Wythe County sheriff's deputies discovered the body in the cargo area of the Damrons' van when they pulled Lisa Damron over on Interstate 77 in Virginia for driving erratically. She was charged with DUI.

The Damrons also are awaiting trial for the Sept. 26 crash that killed their 8-year-old son, Hauston.

What's new: Assistant District Attorney Jason Parker, of Prosecutorial District 22A, said he will seek the death penalty for Jerry and Lisa Damron for Culley's murder.
What's next: The Damrons are scheduled to be back in court in Taylorsville on Sept. 21.
