Long View Police Department Lt. R.A. Coffey describes how a man was accidentally shot by his wife early Thursday in their home.
A Long View man was treated and released at Frye Regional Medical Center early Thursday morning after his wife accidentally shot him with a .45-caliber handgun.
Lt. R.A. Coffey of the Long View Police Department said that at about 3:20 a.m., a woman in her home in the 2600 block of Main Avenue Drive, NW, had stayed up late watching television. She was getting her coffeemaker ready and the timer set for the morning brew when she heard a noise coming from behind her house.
Her husband was asleep at the time and she got the gun.
"She bumped into some furniture and she accidentally shot her husband in the shoulder," Coffey said.
The bullet shattered the man's collarbone, but he is recovering at home, Coffey said.
The shooting has been ruled accidental and no charges will be filed. The couple is in their 40s and both have told investigators the shooting was not intentional, Coffey said.
The couple's names were not released. No one was found behind the house.
