A man who was pulled over for a traffic stop was arrested on several drug charges.
Lenoir police stopped a Jeep Cherokee on Blowing Rock Boulevard Tuesday night for a traffic violation involving his license plate. While the car was pulled over, the driver was searched, as was the vehicle, according to Lenoir police. Officers found 35.7 grams, or 1.26 ounces, of marijuana on the driver, as well as 43 crack rocks. Officers found an additional 1.5 grams, or 0.05 ounces, of powdered cocaine, 10 Hydrocodone pills and 19 Endocet pills in the vehicle, police said.
Driver Gerrod Rashaun Barnes, 21, of Lenoir, was charged with:
• One felony count of possession with intent to sell and deliver crack cocaine,
• One felony count possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana,
• Two felony counts trafficking in opium,
• One felony count maintaining a vehicle,
• One felony count possession of powdered cocaine,
• One misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia,
• One misdemeanor count of driving while license revoked and,
• One misdemeanor count of covering or disguising a registration number plate.
He was placed in jail under a $100,750 secured bond, with a first court appearance scheduled for today.
