Alexander County sheriff's deputies arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of man who went missing April 29.
Cleto Yanez Guerrero, 24, no address available, was arrested Saturday and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. A warrant charging him with first-degree murder was drawn Monday, according to a press release from sheriff's office.
The victim, Fidel Angel Portillo, 21, of Taylorsville, was reported missing April 29. Human remains, preliminarily identified as Portillo, were found on McCurdy Farm Lane in Taylorsville on May 12.
Evidence was sent to the N.C. Bureau of Investigation crime lab for further testing, police said.
Phone calls to the Alexander Sheriff's Office for more information about the murder investigation were not immediately returned Monday.
Guerrero is being held in the Alexander Detention Center under no bond. He has a first appearance on the murder charges set for Monday, July 27.
According to the sheriff's office press release, more arrests could be made in the homicide.
Guerrero has additional charges pending connected with cases unrelated to the homicide, according to the press release.
