Hickory native Rick Barnes, head men’s basketball coach at Texas, is coming home this week to work a camp at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Rick Barnes is coming home again to share his expertise.

Barnes, head men's basketball coach at Texas, will be an instructor on Thursday and Friday for the fifth annual C.O. Miller Memorial Basketball Camp at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Barnes will also celebrate his 55th birthday in his hometown on Friday.

A Hickory High and L-R graduate, Barnes grew up under the watchful eye of Miller at the Hickory Foundation Center.

Barnes is the winningest coach in the history of men's basketball at the University of Texas with a 270-104 record in 11 seasons.

His 22-year college coaching record is 472-238.

The camp is open to those age 7 through seventh grade and will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at L-R on Thursday and Friday.

Cost for the camp for YMCA members and Hickory residents is $50. For community participants, the cost is $75.
