The Bank of Granite off Springs Road was robbed at about 10:30 a.m. Monday. Twenty minutes later, Hickory police arrested a man for the robbery.

At 10:24 a.m., a white male wearing a blue hoodie and dark sweatpants walked into the bank on 12th Avenue, NE, and presented a note demanding money to a teller, said Capt. Thurman Whisnant, with the Hickory Police Department.

The man then left on foot toward the rear of the bank property. Hickory police arrived at the bank and canvassed the area. The K9 unit tracked the robber to the Silver Springs Terrace apartments nearby, on 20th Street, NE, Whisnant said.

A man who was pressure washing the building saw someone matching the suspect's description go into one of the apartments. Police brought the man to the police department for questioning and put him in a lineup with several other people matching his description, Whisnant said.

Bank of Granite employees at the bank during the robbery identified the suspect as the robber. Police also watched surveillance video from the bank and identified him through the footage, Whisnant said.

Additional evidence from the apartment the man was in at Silver Springs Terrace also implicated him, Whisnant said.

Glenn Eugene Wilson, 32, of Hickory, was charged with one count of felony common law robbery and placed in jail under a $50,000 secured bond. He was not charged with robbery with a firearm because Wilson made no indication that he had a gun, Whisnant said.

He attributed Wilson's quick arrest to the cooperation of the witnesses and the good work of the officers involved.

"It only took 15 or 20 minutes to track him down. It was a fantastic job by the K9. They had a good, strong track," Whisnant said. "And we flooded the area with marked and unmarked police units, and people provided good descriptions of the suspect. People at the apartment unit also pointed out which unit he went in."
