Area furniture company hopes to add 50 jobs

A growing furniture manufacturer hopes to more than double its work force during the next five years by adding at least 50 employees.

Legacy Furniture Group, a family owned and operated business that makes furniture for offices, hotels, health-care facilities and other commercial customers, plans to expand into a 139,000-square-foot building most recently occupied by Ameritex Technologies.

Nathan Huret, existing industry coordinator for the Catawba County Economic Development Corp., outlined Legacy's expansion plans during Monday's Conover City Council meeting.

Possible economic incentives for the project will be discussed during a public hearing at the council's meeting on Monday, Dec. 7.

Legacy was founded by Clark Norris, Todd Norris and David Reinhardt in January 2002.

Clark Norris, president, said the 40-employee company has outgrown its 40,000-square-foot building on Brian Drive, NE.

Company officials plan to retain that facility as Legacy expands into the larger building on Deborah Herman Road, SW, he said.

"We feel very good about what we're doing," he said. "We're growing."
