Four Hickory school board candidates elected

All four candidates who filed for Hickory Public Schools' board of education were voted in. They were each running unopposed in their wards.

Angela Beaver Simmons was re-elected to Ward 1, receiving 279 votes, for 98 percent. This will be her second term on the board.

Sallie Daniel Johnson, who ran for Ward 2, received 332 votes, for 99 percent. This is her first term on the board. She will be replacing Sarah Talbert, who is the current board chair. Talbert elected not to run for another term after being on the board for 15 years.

Gloria S. Hemphill was re-elected to Ward 3, receiving 180 votes, for 99 percent. This is her fourth term on the board.

Reginald Hamilton Sr. was re-elected to Ward 5, receiving 141 votes, for 98 percent. This is his second term on the board.

The four candidates will all serve four-year terms.
