Annual change in unemployment

• Catawba and Alexander tied for the state's highest increase in unemployment between September 2008 and September 2009, with a 6-point increase.

• Burke tied with Gaston, Lincoln and Cleveland for the third highest increase in unemployment from September 2008 to September 2009 with a 5.7-point increase.

• Caldwell County had the state's 14th highest increase in unemployment rates — 5.3 points —between September 2008 and September 2009

• Hyde County had the state's smallest increase in unemployment between September 2008 and September 2009, with a 1.4-point increase.
