While he was babysitting his young nephew at his parents' home, a 22-year-old man heard a knock on the front door at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
He answered the door and saw a young man in a gray hooded sweatshirt who, along with two other young men, forced his way into the home on First Street, SW, according to police reports.
Once inside, the intruder asked, "Where is the stuff?" Then the men struck the resident in the face and head with their fists before ransacking the home while the man wearing the sweatshirt stayed with the victim, according to reports.
When they finished searching the home, the suspects ran out the back door, and the victim called 911. Nothing was taken from the home during the incident.
Hickory police officers spotted two men matching the description the victim had given of his attackers and stopped them in the 700 block of First Street, SW. The victim was taken to the scene, identified the pair as his attackers, and they were arrested.
Shawn Markevious Mayfield, 17, of 17th Street, SW, and Jordan Lee Kennedy, 17, of 11th Avenue Drive, SE, were arrested and charged with felony breaking and entering, assault and resist, delay and obstruct public officer.
They are in the Catawba County Jail under $10,500 secured bonds.
The home invasion is similar to a robbery that happened Nov. 11 at Second Street Place, SW.
Investigators are working to determine whether the two crimes are related, said Capt. Thurman Whisnant of the Hickory Police Department.
