May 9, 2009: NASCAR suspends Mayfield indefinitely for failing a random drug test.

May 29, 2009: Mayfield sues NASCAR claiming defamation, breach of the North Carolina Persons with Disabilities Act, unfair and deceptive trade practices, breach of contract in regards to the driver/owner agreement with NASCAR and negligence in that the drug tests were not performed properly.

June 5, 2009: NASCAR denies Mayfield's claims and counter sues him for breach of contract and knowingly defrauding other drivers of winnings.

June 9, 2009: ESPN announces that the drug Mayfield tested positive for in May was methamphetamine.

June 10, 2009: Triad Racing Technologies files suit against Mayfield Motorsports Inc. for $86,000 for parts and chassis work Mayfield allegedly owes the company.

July 1, 2009: Mayfield's suspension is lifted when a U.S. District Court Judge Graham Mullen grants him a temporary injunction.

July 15, 2009: NASCAR announces that Mayfield tested positive for methamphetamine on July 6.

July 24, 2009: The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals upholds NASCAR's suspension of Mayfield and the suspension is reinstated.

July 29, 2009: Lisa Mayfield, his stepmother, files a lawsuit against Mayfield for more than $10,000 claiming slanderous, false and defamatory statements after he accused her of lying for money when she claimed she'd seen him use methamphetamine.

Aug. 19, 2009: Mayfield's brother-in-law David Keith files an affidavit stating that he witnessed Mayfield using methamphetamine multiple times since 1999.

Sept. 1, 2009: Catawba County bills Mayfield $19,000 in property taxes that have yet to be paid.

Sept. 4, 2009: Mayfield files wrongful death lawsuit against stepmother Lisa Mayfield over the 2007 death of his father from what has been called a suicide from a gunshot to the chest.
