St. Stephens high school vandalized

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office is investigating an act of vandalism that happened at St. Stephens High School during the school's homecoming Friday.

St. Stephens played Hibriten High School from Lenoir that night and the visiting team is accused of vandalizing the area in the gym they were given to use as a dressing room, said Chief Deputy Coy Reid of the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.

"They drew some obscene pictures on the blackboard and urinated on the floor," he said, adding that the vandals also scrawled obscene words in the area.

The vandalism was drawn with a "marker pen" and limited to two boys' bathrooms and a hallway near the gymnasium, said Catawba County Schools' spokeswoman Carleen Crawford.

"It is not behavior that we tolerate from our school or any other school," said St. Stephens High School Principal DeAnna Taylor.

There have been no charges made in the case.
