To Mr. Dan Green: Your letter on Oct. 6 did not convince me that there will ever be a time for a socialized health care system in the USA.
While there are flaws that do need to be addressed in our healthcare/insurance system, a total government overhaul is a ridiculous fix for these problems.
If it will cost us more than one dollar, it's too much. The reason why is that we are broke. We are printing money that is not accounted for. Our dollar is dying a slow death.
How did we get to this place where we are actually considering putting the government in charge of health care? Are they not the ones in charge of Medicare and Social Security? And aren't those programs bankrupt?
Do we really believe an agency such as Medicare, that has for years lost money to fraud and abuse, will now suddenly begin to correct and magically be solvent just because someone says "make it so?" The government will always take and abuse.
Let's keep the best healthcare system the world has to offer available for us and the world. Winston Churchill said, "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery."
The only thing that socialized medicine would do is cost us our country and equalize the misery.

North Carolinians unhappy with legislature
It may have taken more than a century, but it looks like the Democratic legislature in Raleigh has worn out its welcome. Where at one time the Democratic Party actually cared for the common man and protected traditional North Carolina values, now Bev Perdue and her legislative allies are content to raise taxes amidst the greatest economic downturn since World War II.
These new taxes are no way to attract new business and encourage businesses already here to hire and put our people back to work. Combined with the corruption of Mike Easley and the jailing of Democratic legislators, one would think we are in Richard Daley's Chicago or Huey Long's Louisiana.
Fortunately, next November voters can fix this problem by electing a conservative Republican legislature that will promote tax cuts, a business-friendly atmosphere and govern according to North Carolina's values and not those of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.
I encourage every voter discontent with the status quo to send Raleigh a message by supporting the election of conservative Republicans to the North Carolina General Assembly.
Your wallet will thank you for it.
