The Record is looking for stories and photos of military personnel, active and veterans.
We are planning a special section called "Honor and Remember." It will be published Nov. 11.
We want your stories, in your words, and photos of the time you served our great nation.
Families may submit stories and photos of military personnel, alive or deceased. Again, we want the exploits of our brave men and women in your words, as you know them or remember them.
Many fine people from our area have served over the years, and we want to produce a commemorative issue that gives them the recognition they deserve.
Men and women from all branches of service, of any rank, of any assignment and from any war or peacetime tour of duty will be appreciated. There are many heroes on the battlefield, but heroes also come from everyday military life, as anyone who has served can attest.
Keeping America safe is a full-time effort, equally as important as preserving America's security in combat.
We also know, all too well, that our men and women in uniform are not always assigned to fight, but to build, to teach, to heal, to rescue and to stand guard.
Our warriors have won many victories by caring and simply being there for the victims of violence, political and social strife and natural disaster.
We know who we owe for our freedom and security. These are the people we want to honor and remember.
So, we ask for stories and photos. We suggest that you submit copies of photos. If, however, you entrust us with precious original photos, we will take care of them and ensure their safe return. If mailed, we'll send them back in the SASE you provide, or keep them safe until you come to pick them up.
We ask that stories be brief, but please tell the story. They can be first-person accounts or biographical sketches of a loved one. We welcome family lore that spans generations.
We will appreciate anything that can be e-mailed, photos and/or stories. Please provide e-mail addresses and telephone numbers so we can contact you if we have questions about a story or photo.
We want to make the Nov. 11 issue the best ever. We will strive to make it worthy of the people we honor and remember.
Bring the stories or photos by our office; mail them to Honor and Remember, Hickory Daily Record, P.O. Box 968, Hickory NC 28603; or e-mail them to news@hickoryrecord.com.
We look forward to your responses with anticipation, and we thank you in advance.
